THE TRAITOR is a film of revenge and betrayal about Tommaso Buscetta, also known as the “boss of two worlds”. The new film by Marco Bellocchio tells the story of the first great mafia repentant, the man who first handed over the keys to approach the mafia organization, thus changing the fate of relations between the state and organized crime. Pierfrancesco Favino plays Tommaso Buscetta according to a new and never studied perspective: he will be the “Traitor.” A story of violence and dramas, which begins with Buscetta’s arrest in Brazil and his extradition to Italy, passing through his friendship with Judge Falcone and the unreal silences carried through the Maxi trial against the Mafia. And it is precisely in the moment when justice seems to have marked a point, that the Cosa Nostra reminds Buscetta and Italy that its defeat is far off. The bomb explodes in Capaci and Buscetta will raise the bar by mentioning Andreotti: a tragic boomerang that will force him to flee Italy forever.
